Sustainability at Ippolito International
Since 2015, we’ve looked for ways to practice more sustainable methods of operation. In 2018, we achieved Zero Waste certification (and we were the first to do so in Monterey County in California). While this is not a complete list of our sustainability efforts, here are a few of our accomplishments:
In our Processing Facilities
We are Zero Waste certified since 2018 at most of our vegetable processing facilities, tracking our waste each month and minimizing what is sent to the landfill with a consistent 90%+ diversion rate. This means that 90%+ of the waste that we generate is not put into landfills, and is either recycled, composted, re-used, or sent to animal feed lots.
On our Farms
We are implementing a sustainable approach to managing pests in 2025 by launching a certified Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program on our ranches. Integrated Pest Management is important because it identifies conditions that allow pests to thrive, and then proactively manages those factors so that pest populations can be reduced over time.
Among our People
We implemented third party social accountability audits in 2023, incorporating the Ethical Training Initiative Base Code among our employees. In addition, we support the Ethical Charter for Responsible Labor Practices.
